New York Rangers general manager Jeff Gorton was named to the Advisory Group for the US National Hockey team.
On Friday New York Rangers general manager Jeff Gorton was named to the Advisory Group for the US National Hockey team per USAHockey.com. The announcement came following the introduction of the team’s general manager, Bill Zito.
Jeff Gorton has been serving as the general manager of the New York Rangers since 2015 when he succeeded Glen Sather. Gorton has been particularly busy this season with the Rangers having underachieved and will certainly miss the playoffs this season. Late last month in an effort to rebuild his club, Gorton traded his two of his top players on the team, Rick Nash and Michael Grabner.
The U.S. Men’s National Team Advisory Group, a collection of NHL general managers that includes Stan Bowman (Chicago Blackhawks), David Poile (Nashville Predators), Ray Shero (New Jersey Devils), Dale Tallon (Florida Panthers) and Gorton. The Rangers Gorton is a new addition to the group this year.
The responsibility of the Advisory Group is to assist general manager Zito in the selection of players that will represent the United States in the 2018 IIHF Men’s World Championship. The Championships will take place in Herning, Denmark.
The U.S. National Team will play their first game on May 4th against rival Canada at 10:15 a.m EST.
