The New York Rangers played two games last week and both of them needed to go to the shootout to determine a winner. Ondrej Pavelec was a key performer for the Blueshirts last week.

On Wednesday night, the New York Rangers hosted the Washington Capitals at the Garden. Ondrej Pavelec was named the starter and he played like a number one goalie. Pavelec made 30 saves as the Rangers went on to win in the shootout 1-0. It was Pavelec’s first shutout of the year. Friday night the Rangers traveled to Detroit and though they had a third-period lead, the boys wound up dropping the decision in the shootout 3-2.

Oh, Baby!

Here are some highlights from last weeks games.

Alex Chiasson backhands a shot on the doorstep, but Ondrej Pavelec makes the save with his pad to keep the game scoreless.

Ondrej Pavelec stops Alex Ovechkin in the shootout to complete the shutout and delivers the Rangers a win.

On Friday night, the Rangers were in Detroit to play the Red Wings. David Desharnais scores to give the Rangers a 1-0 lead.

Vinni Lettieri recalled from the AHL, scored his first NHL goal, but the Rangers fall to the Red Wings 3-2 in the shootout.

It’s A Power Play Goal

Well, Ranger fans didn’t hear Sam Rosen say that last week. The Rangers are now ranked 13th in the NHL with the man advantage.

Who’s Hot?

I am giving this one to Rangers back up goalie Ondrej Pavelec. The game against the Capitals was his best this season. He held Alex Ovechkin off the scoreboard all night in preserving the 1-0 win.

Who’s Not

Pavel Buchnevich has not been playing his game as of late. Have to admit a lot of that has to do with Alain Vigneault bouncing Buch all over the lineup.

Transactions/Injuries

Chris Kreider was diagnosed with a blood clot in his right arm and will be out of the lineup indefinitely.

The Rangers recalled Vinni Lettieri from AHL Hartford Wolf Pack. He will wear number 95.
