Was Lonzo Ball throwing shade at New Yorkers with his hoodie? (Video)

Lonzo Ball wore an interesting hoodie on his way to Madison Square Garden tonight. Was this a diss aimed at New Yorkers?

Lakers rookie point guard Lonzo Ball was seen sporting an interesting hoodie and many New Yorkers are caught wondering if this was an intentional slight aimed at the denizens of the Big Apple. Ball’s hoodie has his face on the iconic Nas album, It Was Written.

Nas is one of New York’s favorite sons and many New Yorkers are very protective of his legacy. There is no doubt that this was a conscious decision by Lonzo to wear this on his way to his debut at Madison Square Garden. Whether or not he did it as a slight towards Knicks fans is a different story.

Lonzo’s father, LaVar Ball is a well-known provocateur and one-man marketing machine. If he was wearing the hoodie then we would be able to definitively say that he was doing it to get a rise out of Knicks fans.

Lonzo is much quieter than his father. There’s a chance that he wore this as an homage to Nas. I’m not saying this for sure, but Lonzo is not his father.

Regardless of his reasoning for the hoodie, Lonzo had a very solid debut at Madison Square Garden. He had 17 points, eight rebounds, six assists and showed no hesitancy to shoot. This looks like it could be the first game in a nice coastal rivalry moving forward.

Knicks fans can sleep easy tonight because, in the end, Kristaps Porzingis and the Knicks outlasted Lonzo’s Lakers in overtime. So there’s no need to get too mad about a sweatshirt. We’re getting the last laugh tonight.

We will have to wait until next season to see what kind of attire Lonzo wears to the Garden. My guess is that New Yorkers won’t forget this.
