New York Jets head coach Todd Bowles won over many fans after calling out Robby Anderson‘s selfish act during the loss to Carolina.
- New York Jets 27 (4-7)
- Carolina Panthers 35 (8-3)
- NFL, Week 12, Final, Box Score
- MetLife Stadium, East Rutherford, New Jersey
Another New York Jets game. Another disturbing Gang Green loss that saw yet another fourth-quarter lead squandered.
With New York up 20-18 early in the final frame, Luke Kuechly recovered a fumble and took it to the house. That and a Kaelin Clay 60-yard punt return capped off a dreadful fourth quarter for the home team, ultimately falling by the final score of 35-27 to the Carolina Panthers.
Look at the schedule. Aside from the first two games of the season, this team has not only battled in each game, but has led most of the time.
It’s tough to figure out if they’re overachieving or actually underachieving (believe it or not). Either way, it falls on the shoulders of head coach Todd Bowles.
Personally, I’m not a fan. I’ve outlined the many reasons I believe he’s in over his head as a head coach. But in this instance, he just picked up a fan.
Following the gut-wrenching loss, Bowles was told about Robby Anderson’s campaign to the FOX Sports cameras about asking fans to elect him to the NFL Pro Bowl.

“Hey. Will ya’ll vote for me for the Pro Bowl, man. Please.”
Anderson is currently 14th in the NFL with 714 receiving yards. He’s tallied 41 receptions and seven touchdowns to go along with a 17.4 yards per catch average that only trails T.Y. Hilton‘s 19.5 average (for players with 30 or more receptions).
Bowles, obviously, didn’t see the Pro Bowl marketing done by Young Amazin. But when told about it, he kept his voice culture strong, via Alex Squadron of the New York Post.
“I didn’t see it, but if that’s true, that’s not smart football,” he said. “We don’t want selfish players on this team doing selfish things.”
Former Detroit Lions linebacker Chris Spielman was spot-on during the broadcast:

Though I continuously disagree with the way Bowles deploys gameplans and in-game strategies, this is an area I’m fully on-board with the man.
