New York Rangers 4, New Jersey Devils, 3: Young Filip Chytil Ends it in OT (Highlights)

Young Filip Chytil and the New York Rangers have begun the preseason 2-0 after defeating the New Jersey Devils at Madison Square Garden.

The New York Rangers played in their second preseason game tonight with plenty of eyes on the team’s new players. Kevin Shattenkirk and rookie Filip Chytil played in their Ranger jersey’s for the first time at Madison Square Garden. They were both involved in the scoring tonight.

The Rangers took a first period lead on a power-play goal by Kevin Hayes, as Shattenkirk and Jimmy Vesey recorded assists. The second period consisted of the two teams alternating goals back and forth with Kreider and Desharnais scoring for the Rangers and Zacha and Gibbons for the Devils. The Rangers took a 3-2 lead into the third period. Devils forward Jimmy Hayes scored early in the third period to tie the game at 3-3 and that’s how the third period ended.

In the overtime session, the Devils took a penalty, one of nine on the night for New Jersey,  and a rookie taking advantage of his opportunity. 18-year old Filip Chytil scored his first goal, on the power play, at 4:56 of the overtime session to give the Rangers a 4-3 victory.
