New York Knicks‘ Michael Beasley thinks his new team can be a top-five seed in the playoffs. Does that kind of thinking remind you of anyone?

The New York Knicks made it clear that the 2017-18 season is going to be about rebuilding via a youth movement. This is language a team uses when they plan on tanking a season. Apparently, nobody gave that memo to Michael Beasley.

According to Stefan Bondy of The New York Daily News, the former No. 2 overall pick believes the Knicks can be not just a playoff team, “but a five, six-seed team if we do it right.”

Beasley notes teammates Kristaps Porzingis, Tim Hardaway Jr., and Carmelo Anthony as reasons to believe in this team. Apparently, nobody told Beasley that Melo was on the trading block either.

The 28-year-old’s wild prediction is similar to the words of Derrick Rose last summer after he came to New York. The former MVP proclaimed the Knicks a “super team” and compared them to the Warriors.

New York was even worse than they were in 2015-16; missing the playoffs for the fourth straight season at 31-51. The Warriors dominated the rest of the league and won the finals.
