On this edition of the New York Jets Gang Green Report, even Quincy Enunwa acknowledges he sees the “tanking evidence.”
Everybody in the world sees it, yet nobody within the New York Jets organization acknowledges it. That is, until today.
According to Zach Braziller of the New York Post, Jets wide receiver Quincy Enunwa explains that it’s hard to dispute the idea his Jets are tanking the 2017 NFL season.
“It’s hard to argue [with] that,” Enunwa said Sunday, “when everybody else sees all the stuff that’s going on.”
Still, the noise hasn’t changed the kid’s attitude.
“It hasn’t so much changed my mindset,” Enunwa said. “A lot of the guys just want to win. Whatever it takes. I know they cut some guys obviously, but that’s the business.
“I don’t think any player is going to tank. Our jobs are on the line. Our families [depend on us]. We’re out there to work and get our paycheck and win games. People are always going to say that kind of stuff, but we’re just going to play.”
To me, there are two significant aspects to this new found Jets attack. First, yes, Mike Maccagnan hasn’t done much to compete this season. Secondly and most importantly, he correctly didn’t do much.
Thanks to his aggressive rebuild two summers ago, the salary cap and personnel group has no chance to compete this season. But be careful. We have no idea how good or terrible this team is yet. In fact, many can easily argue it’s a better squad than the 5-11 team in 2016 that faced a historically tough beginning to the season.
