Phil Jackson’s firing means free agents will come to see the Knicks in a new light. Point guard Jeff Teague is a big one.

The 2016-17 summer of free agency is a big one. It’s littered with the one thing the Knicks need most: point guards.

While Phil Jackson was in charge, and New York was running the triangle offense, none of the top floor generals would’ve considered a move to the Big Apple. Now the Zen Master’s out, and there’s already a report of one of the top guys having a change of heart.

According to Ian Begley of ESPN New York, free agent Jeff Teague and the Knicks have mutual interest. It doesn’t seem like that would’ve been the case if Jackson were still in charge.

Per Begley, the Knicks attempted to trade for Teague two years ago when he was the point guard for the Atlanta Hawks.

The Knicks have a lot to consider at the point guard position. According to ESPN’s Ramona Shelburne, former Raptors executive Tim Leiweke will guide the team through free agency. What does he think of Derrick Rose? We know Jackson was his No. 1 fan.

Free agency starts on July 1 at 12:01 a.m. Buckle up Knicks fans.
