After a costly error by Asdrubal Cabrera in the seventh, Jay Bruce made up for it with a line drive single in the 12th to give New York the 5-4 victory.

Tyler Pill pitched very well in his first major league start, as he zig-zagged in and out of trouble through 5.1 innings. With a 4-2 lead in the seventh, Asdrubal Cabrera dropped an easy pop up on the left side of the infield which allowed the Brewers to tie the game.

Josh Smoker pitched three shutouts innings in extras and Jay Bruce won it for the Mets with a single up the middle to give the Mets the 5-4 win.

Bittersweet Night

Asdrubal Cabrera had three hits on the night, including a RBI double in the fifth inning. However, he had a key error in the seventh inning, where he dropped a pop up that was right near him. That allowed two runs to score, and for the Brewers to tie the game at four.

The error was an unusual sight for Mets fans, as Cabrera has played a solid shortstop in New York the last season and a quarter. However, it also brought back a terrible memory for Mets fans, where Luis Castillo dropped an A-Rod popup in the ninth inning to allow the Yankees to win the game.

Tyler Pill Shines in Debut

Rookie starter Tyler Pill was effective in his first outing, giving up just one run, six hits, three walks, and four strikeouts in 5.1 innings of work.

He became better as men got on base, maneuvering through three straight innings of trouble. Milwaukee finished 1 for 8 with runners in scoring position against Pill.

He showed Terry Collins and Sandy Alderson that he can be used in a spot start if a starter in the future gets hurt.

What Else to Know From Tonight

Lucas Duda continues his hot week, as he now has four homers and ten RBI’s in the last eight games. The Mets can really use Duda’s pop, especially since Cespedes continues to be out of the lineup.

However, Lucas can hit five homers in a week, and then none for a month and a half, so he is going to need to keep it up to help the Amazins stay in games.

Up Next For the Mets

The Mets will look to continue their winnings ways as they face Milwaukee in the third game of this four-game series. Jacob Degrom goes for the Mets, and Junior Guerra goes for the Brewers at 7:10 PM tomorrow night.
