Not only has Tanner Glass provided a lift in the physical department, he’s now scored. The New York Rangers defeat the Florida Panthers, 5-1.

Superhero? Like a real-life legit, hockey superhero?

No chance.

Tanner Glass isn’t that. Tanner Glass isn’t even a skilled hockey player at the NHL level. In fact, it’s arguable that he has the least skill of all active players at the big boy level right now.

That doesn’t mean he’s doesn’t add something to the party.

Since being called up a couple days ago, the New York Rangers are 2-0 with the latest coming in Sunrise against the Florida Panthers. And yes, believe it, Tanner Glass actually scored a goal in helping his team to the comfortable 5-1 victory. He came in the first period providing the Rangers with a 2-0 lead:

For the better version, we add an appropriate music overtone:

What Glass has done has “balanced” out these Rangers. Instead of throwing 18 skaters who possess the most talent, Jeff Gorton and Alain Vigneault actually have a “team.” They actually now possess a guy who’ll do the dirty work in scrumming it up and navigating to the dirty areas of the crease.

Later in the game, on a goal by Nick Holden, Glass provided the picture-perfect screen. This one made the score 4-1. Glass also picked up an assist on the play.

The other goal scorers on the night were Chris Kreider, Kevin Hayes and Pavel Buchnevich who added an empty-netter.

Henrik Lundqvist was pretty solid. In fact, he was more than solid in stopping 42-of-44 Panther shots. (In stark contrast, New York only registered 19 shots.)

The Rangers are now 9-2 on the second night of back-to-back contests. Next up for New York will be the Carolina Panthers on Thursday night as the road trip continues.
