Prior to the game against the Toronto Maple Leafs on Friday night, the New York Rangers will wear special Steven McDonald warmup jerseys.
The New York Rangers are finally back in action, after just six days off. On this Friday the 13th, they’ll skate against the Toronto Maple Leafs at Madison Square Garden.
But this isn’t any ordinary game.
Lifelong fan and NYPD hero Steven McDonald passed away at the age of 59 this past Tuesday. This means the best in the business — Madison Square Garden — will put on a well-deserved show for the man the organization named the Extra Effort Award after.
The Blueshirts will wear these custom jerseys during warmups (photo above).
Earlier in the day, New York City honored one of their own with thousands lining 5th Avenue:

Knowing what Mcdonald stood for, the question quickly becomes, “How can the Blueshirts not win tonight?”
First puck drop comes your way at 7 p.m. ET and can be seen on MSG Network.
