ESPN New York’s Ian Begley reported that New York Knicks point guard Derrick Rose plans to seek out a max deal this summer.
New York Knicks point guard Derrick Rose isn’t going to let some off the court mistake ruin his financial future. He’s a free agent this summer, and it will likely be his last opportunity for a big payday.
According to Ian Begley of ESPN New York, Rose plans to seek a max contract:
“Some close to Rose have told friends he will seek a max contract this summer. For Rose, that pact would be for five years and nearly $150 million.”
Per Begley, members of the Knicks organization have used the word “embarrassment” to describe the situation Rose put the team in on Monday night. New York had been bad enough on the court, but it seemed like they were due for a good scandal.
Rose’s negative effect on his team and overall average performance haven’t deterred him from the seeking the biggest payday possible. More power to him. It’s just not going to happen with the Knicks.

This is a big stretch for the former MVP and his team. The Knicks have a soft schedule coming up so if they’re going to make a move back into the playoff race they have to do it right now. If Rose has any chance of redeeming himself he’ll need to be one of the players leading that playoff charge.
