An Anders Lee deflection with 27 seconds left in the third propelled the New York Islanders to a thrilling win over the Pittsburgh Penguins.

As high as fans of the New York Islanders were early in the game is as low as they became in the third period. But then, Anders Lee deflected one home with just 27 seconds remaining that propelled the Isles to a much-needed 5-3 victory over Sidney Crosby and the Pittsburgh Penguins.

John Tavares, while he won’t show up in the box score with an assist, made the critical play to set up the game-winner:

Casey Cizikas, Jason Chimera, and Johnny Boychuk were the other three Isles goal-scorers, who built a 3-0 lead after two periods of play.

Pittsburgh furiously fought back in the final frame with goals from Conor Sheary, Justin Schultz, and Evgeni Malkin to silence the Barclays Center. That was, until, the Lee goal went down.

Sidney Crosby collected two assists on the night. Thomas Greiss picked up the win by stopping 31-of-34 shots.

Next up for the Isles will be a trip to D.C. to take on Alex Ovechkin and the Washington Capitals on Thursday night.
