New York Rangers’ Mika Zibanejad out 6-8 weeks with broken fibula (Video)

Not only did the New York Rangers lose in a shootout to the Florida Panthers, they lose Mika Zibanejad for 6-8 weeks with a broken leg.

Sunday night was a costly one for the New York Rangers. Not only did the club fall disappointingly in a shootout to the Florida Panthers, 3-2, but they lose one of their top players.

Early in overtime, Mika Zibanejad was hot on the case of Florida’s Reilly Smith as he attacked Henrik Lundqvist‘s net. Zibanejad’s skates were tangled with Smith’s and landed awkwardly into the boards with full momentum moving forward.

It didn’t look good.

Shortly after the game, the Rangers announced that Zibs would miss 6-8 weeks with a broken fibula.

As seen from the featured image above, Zibanejad’s ankle was put in a supremely compromising position.

Here’s video of the play:

It took two Rangers to help him off the ice.

Next up for New York will be a trip to Pittsburgh as they’ll take on Sidney Crosby and the Pittsburgh Penguins. Kevin Hayes will be the first man Alain Vigneault looks to in effort to fill the Zibanjead void at center.
