Madison Square Garden and the New York Rangers honored Sam Rosen prior to Sunday night’s game. Even John Davidson made an appearance.
Does anybody do it better than Madison Square Garden? No chance. They don’t and they can’t dare dream of doing it like this.
We are, of course, talking about the ceremonial aspect to the Garden. They’re simply the best.
On Sunday night, they did it again. Instead of a player, however, one of booth guys received his due love.
New York Rangers play-by-play TV man Sam Rosen has been doing it at a high level for more than three decades now. Rangerstown has fell in love with the guy. Some of the more recognizable words from Sam through the years have been, “It’s a power-play goal,” and “This one will last a lifetime,” coming in June in 1994 when Mark Messier, Brian Leetch, and the ’94 Blueshirts broke that 54-year dreaded Stanley Cup-less drought against the Vancouver Canucks.
Prior to New York’s game against the Rats (the Florida Panthers, as some know them by), MSG honored Rosen after he was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame via the Foster Hewitt Memorial Award last week. The award is provided to those who contribute outstanding work as a hockey broadcaster.

His family and current booth partner Joe Micheletti were on the ice with Sam while the Garden played a tribute video. But the biggest surprise came when 20-year partner and former-Ranger John Davidson joined Rosen.
JD was certainly emotional. Ohhhhh baby!
