With news that Jeff Gorton and the New York Rangers have waived defenseman Dylan McIlrath, it seems as if his Big Apple days are over.

According to many sources, 24-year-old defenseman Dylan McIlrath has been placed on waivers. McIlrath, who has only played in one game this season, didn’t participate in practice.

McIlrath said, “I’m never gonna blame this on coaches. This was all about my play and not earning a spot in the lineup.”

McIlrath’s name has been all over in trade rumors, especially with the Winnipeg Jets and Anaheim Ducks. But after a long wait, GM Jeff Gorton finally did what he wanted to do, and that was waiving the tough D-Man and sending him down to Hartford (as he has cleared waivers).

Quick Take:

This is a terrible move by Jeff Gorton. McIlrath is the biggest and most physical defenseman on the roster. Just an awful move considering the Rangers depth along the blueline. They should have, at least, allowed the untested big man to play a regular role prior to taking action.

Now that he’s back in Harford, and the Rangers organization (and the rest of the NHL isn’t interested), his career with the team in the big city may have concluded.

Hello Rangers fans, my name is Jake Weingarten and i really love the rangers. The rangers mean a lot to me, whether it's the fans, players, or the history. I've enjoyed many games at MSG and on the road, but none better then game 7 2015 against the Washington Capitals. If i had to choose a favorite blueshirt of all-time, it would be Carl Hagelin. Last thing, always believe in yourself and never doubt your thoughts. Let's go Rangers!.
