Mike Francesa listened to John Sterling’s call of Gary Sanchez’s long home run on Saturday, provoking some thoughts as to the cleverness of the new addition.

Gary Sanchez has been absolutely sensational in his early New York Yankees career, propelling the team into a pennant race.

Throughout the brilliance, Yankees’ radio announcer John Sterling has been using the home run call, “Gary … is scary!” following each round-tripper. The longtime play-by-play man, who now does the games on WFAN 660/101.9 FM, is notorious for coming up with unique home run calls for each player.

Legendary WFAN radio host Mike Francesa, who does an afternoon drive show weekdays from 1-6:30 pm, does not necessarily like the newest addition to Sterling’s playbook. In fact, compared to the others, he thinks it is extremely subpar.

He said as much on his Football Sunday show, claiming that the Sanchez call is “awful.”

Well, awful or not, Francesa is right about one thing. We will certainly be hearing plenty of those calls in the near future.
