The best scouting report on Eli Apple, the New York Giants number one pick in the 2016 NFL Draft, came from his mother, Annie.

Speed, hands, strength? All of the positives cornerback Eli Apple brings to his new team can be summed up in one clean sentence.

“He’s like a black Eli Manning,” his mother, Annie Apple, told Steve Serby of the New York Post. “The personality, his facial expressions, the whole nine.”

Perhaps this is the reason New York Giants general manager Jerry Reese made the Ohio State product the 10th overall pick in the 2016 NFL Draft. One thing’s for sure, he understands how important the position is.

“When you have two corners in this league, you’re short one,” Reese said. “We think we can play with anybody around the league with these three kind of guys.”

As you can see in the video above, Apple is a soft-spoken young man. According to his mother, however, nobody will out work him:

“You’re getting a football lover,” she said. “He always wants to get better. No one is gonna ever outwork Eli Apple. Ever.”

For now all Giants fans can do is speculate about the kid’s future with Big Blue.
