Thanks to their solid 5-2 victory at the Bell Centre against the Montreal Canadiens on Saturday night, the New York Rangers are now in firm control of the No. 2 spot in the Metropolitan Division with 94 points.

Tonight’s game turned out to be an offensive explosion.

J.T. Miller got the party started first with this beautiful toe-drag highlight-reel goal:

Though Lars Eller picked up the equalizer just under 10 minutes later, it was New York who dominated the second period.

Derrick Brassard picked up his 27th goal of the season, and then Chris Kreider exploded for two goals in 2:23:

The expression on Habs’ head coach Michel Therrien’s face was priceless after that second Kreids goal.

Derek Stepan added his 18th goal of the season towards the end of the second, making the score 5-2 – one that would last through the third and final period.

The Blueshirts tallied two power-play goals and tallied 23 shots in total. Antti Raanta, starting in place of Henrik Lundqvist, stopped 24 of the 26 shots he faced on the night.

The Rangers will now turn around quickly to host the Pittsburgh Penguins on Sunday night.
