Though things got rocky in the second period, the New York Rangers were able to hand on for a 4-2 victory against the Buffalo Sabres.
New York Rangers 4 (39-22-6, 84 pts)
Buffalo Sabres 2 (27-32-9, 63 pts)
Eastern Conference, Final Game Box Score
First Niagara Center, Buffalo, New York
The night belonged mainly to New York Rangers forward Mats Zuccarello, for when he had the puck or made a tremendous play, the Blueshirts faithful who made the trek to Buffalo chanted out the very familiar “Zuuuuc” bellow.
It did wonders as Zuccarello was named second star thanks to his goal and two assists on the night.
Derick Brassard, who tallied the Rangers first goal (on the power play) and collected an assist, was named first star.
Jesper Fast and J.T. Miller (empty-netter) were the other two scorers for the Rangers.
Antti Raanta started yet again for Henrik Lundqvist and was pretty solid. Aside from a 5:58 stretch in the second period – that saw the Sabres collect their only two goals of the game – Raanta was reliable. He stopped 34 of the 36 shots he faced on the night.
Next up for the Rangers will be the Red Wings in Detroit on Saturday.
