For seven straight games now, the New York Rangers have come away with at least a point. They’re also coming off their second three-game winning streak of the season, after Tuesday’s impressive 5-2 victory over the Washington Capitals.
Suddenly, tonight, they’ll be faced with a huge challenge.
It’s not so much that taking on the young Avalanche in Colorado is anything to write home about, it’s that Rick Nash will miss the game due to a banged up back he injured during Thursday’s practice.

Regardless of the Blueshirts recent fortunes, they’ve been able to remain grounded, via Stats LLC:
“We’re not jumping in the air right now. We’re pretty aware that we beat a good team. At the same time, we didn’t play our best hockey,” forward Derick Brassard said. “When you win a game, you take the points but we have to come out with better execution in Colorado.”
The Friday night game means a quick turnaround for the Avalanche. They suffered a 4-2 loss to the Arizona Coyotes on Thursday evening.
Alain Vigneault’s lineup remains consistent for this one (aside from the Nash injury):
We now know Emerson Etem will be in the lineup. We just don’t know yet how the lines will shake out. Dylan McIlrath will be in the lineup for the struggling Dan Boyle for the second straight game. This marks the first occasion all season long he’s played two straight.
First puck drop comes your way at 9 PM ET from Colorado.
