Due to the idea of captain John Tavares missing a third straight game with flu-like symptoms, the New York Islanders experienced a “dark” sort of night. Not the “dark” you may initially think of, however.

Dark in the sense the alternate “dark” jerseys were out, and thankfully for the Brooklyn crowd, they came away with a solid 2-1 victory over the New Jersey Devils Tuesday night.

Brock Nelson tallied his third goal of the season just 7:23 into the game. He was setup by Anders Lee and Marek Zidlicky, who both collected assists on the play.

Both teams played a scoreless second before Travis Zajac blasted one past Jaroslav Halak a little over four minutes into the final frame. It came on the power play as a result to a Brian Strait slashing penalty.

On this night, however, the Black Brooklyn unis would not be outdone. Casey Cizikas scored with just 2:12 remaining in regulation. It was a hard working goal helped setup by a Matt Martin deflection off a Brian Strait point shot. He out-muscled Devils captain Andy Greene in front of the net to put the rebound past Corey Schneider.

Schneider stopped 32-of-34 Isles shots while Halak only had to stop 23 in total. The win now gives New York 17 points in the Metropolitan and helps keep pace with the New York Rangers and Washington Capitals.
