With only a couple weeks left before the preseason begins, the New York Islanders have inked their first-round pick Mathew Barzal.

The New York Islanders have signed their first round pick, 16th overall Mathew Barzal to a three year entry-level contract.
Garth Snow and company have consistently kept the youth movement going and the signing of Barzal is another successful notch in the belt.
Barzal, a 6’0”, 182 lbs. forward had a solid season with the Seattle Thunderbirds of the Western Hockey League. The 18-year old together 57 points (12 goals, 45 assists) in just 44 games played.
At the 2015 Under-18 World Junior Championships Barzal was named a Top-3 Player on team Canada during the tournament.
Now, next on Garth Snow’s list of to do’s is locking down Brock Nelson. Don’t think for a second the Isles coming to terms with Steve Bernier is not an insurance move if Nelson does not sign.
The clock is ticking for Nelson. The Islanders rule of not negotiating past training camp is down to seven days from today September 10th as Camp opens up on the 17th.
