The New York Mets received positive reports from the doctors they sent Lucas Duda too. The question is do they really need to rush him back?

The New York Mets sent Lucas Duda to a California doctor to get a second opinion on his ailing back.

Considering what they’ve been through with David Wright, Mets fans and management had to have their fingers and toes crossed.

Reports are coming back that Duda suffered only a small herniation and is expected to be eligible to come back when his DL stint is over.

The way the Mets are hitting lately and with Wright coming back last night, the question becomes obvious.

Do you really need to rush Duda back?

The Mets have dealt all year with Wright rehabilitating his back and wondering if he will even come back this season.  Wright did not disappoint in his first at bat crushing an upper deck home run into the Philadelphia night sparking the Mets to a record breaking home run barrage.

If I am GM Sandy Alderson and manager Terry Collins I take the cautious approach with Duda and make sure he is 100%.  There is zero reason to rush him back only to see him breakdown at the end of the season or even worse in the playoffs.

Michael Cuddyer and Daniel Murphy can handle first base in the short term. While rookie Michael Conforto has proven he can handle major league pitching to replace Cuddyer in right field.

Give Duda the time to recover and don’t rush him back. The way this team is hitting and with a weak schedule on the horizon, it is time to start to prepare for the postseason and looking at the big picture ahead.
