Now that Wilmer Flores will remain a member of the New York Mets, he’s capitalizing on his opportunity starting tonight at Citi Field.

While high negativity swirled surrounding the non-Carlos Gomez trade from two nights ago, the more unfortunate story that came out of it happened to directly effect Wilmer Flores.

Flores, a 23-year old kid who’s known nothing but the New York Mets organization since signing as a 16-year old, was overcome with emotion during the game once realizing he had been traded. This led to some ridiculous ridicule around social media.

However, for every perceived negative oftentimes comes a better positive.

On Friday night – and after the trade deadline commenced and Flores made it through as a Met – the Citi Field crowd let Flores know how much they appreciated those emotions. Every time he comes up to the plate or makes a play in the field, they’re sure to let the Mets second-baseman hear it.

Flores also repaid them back with a brilliant defensive play early in the game. He ranged to his left with a full out extension to throw a man out on a grounder.

Wilmer Flores is now a cult-hero in Floushing. Hopefully for Mets fans this is the start of another hot streak for the kid.
