New York Islanders

Although the Washington Capitals put together a furious push in the third period, the New York Islanders prevailed in overtime.

Washington Capitals superstar Alex Ovechkin made a major mistake yesterday. By proclaiming that the Verizon Center would be louder than Nassau Coliseum, he further woke up the New York Islanders fans.

The Old Barn was electric:

Not to mention, the Islanders obliged to the electric atmosphere. Most of the game was a typical back and forth playoff affair. Both teams were physical and chances were exchanged. The Isles got on the board first.1isles2 Kyle Okposo tipped one in on a beautiful play by Lubomir Visnovsky at the 12:37 mark of the second period. The Isles played fantastic defensive hockey from that point forward. That was, until, the middle of the third when the Capitals started making their push. Chance after chance was thrown at Jaroslav Halak. Finally, they were able to cash in thanks to Nicklas Backstrom with just over six minutes to go in regulation. We headed to overtime. However, just as quick as we started overtime, the game ended that much quicker.

Captain John Tavares slipped a shot off a loose puck past Braden Holtby only 15-seconds into the extra frame.

The Isles now lead the best of seven series two games to one.
