The New York Yankees trade Brian McCann to the Houston Astros
The New York Yankees have dealt catcher Brian McCann and cash considerations to the Houston Astros for a pair of prospects.
According to the New York Yankees PR Department, Brian McCann and cash are heading to Houston for Albert Abreu and Jorge Guzman.
McCann spent the last three seasons in the Bronx and slashed .235/.313/.418 with 69 home runs and 227 RBI. Last season, he joined Yogi Berra, Johnny Bench, and Mike Piazza as the only catchers in history to have more than 20 home runs in 10 straight seasons.
With Gary Sanchez being the catcher of not only now but the future, it made sense to send McCann elsewhere, as he can easily be a catcher on any major league team.
The Yankees will be paying $5.5 million of McCann’s $17 million salary each of next two seasons. Houston will pay the rest ($11.5 million).
According to JJ Cooper of Baseball America, Abreu contains four pitches while his fastball touches 99 m.p.h. Guzman touches 102-103. Overall, a solid pickup for Brian Cashman.
