New York Knicks‘ Kristaps Porzingis received his NBA 2K17 rating, and proceeded to post it to Twitter. So what do you think, is it too low?
No one knew what to expect from Kristaps Porzingis heading into his rookie season with the New York Knicks. It wasn’t a surprise when the crew at NBA 2K sports gave him a rating of 74. This year’s number is a bit of a head scratcher.
Porzingis burst onto the scene last season and finishing third in Rookie of the Year voting, but today he announced (via his personal Twitter account) that he had received a rating of 80.
Finally @Ronnie2K sent me my @NBA2K rating.. What you guys think? ?? pic.twitter.com/d7TTVlzZeJ

The Twitter verse offered up their typically comical opinion.
rating is bout 19 or 20 points too low

When Rudy Gobert‘s rating of 81 was released he was caught in the crossfire.
So I guess Rudy Gobert is a better player than Kristaps Porzingis…?? https://t.co/0gfkRSu5z9

It might seem unreasonable for the folks at 2K to go much for Porzingis, considering he is just a sophomore. He struggled down the stretch and his three-point shooting (33.3%) and post play (44th percentile points per possession) must improve.
However, if you look at the rating of reigning ROY award winner Karl-Anthony Towns, also released on his personal Twitter account. His outstanding rating of 88 shows that 2K wasn’t afraid to give a sophomore a rating that was higher than the one given to a proven veteran like Andre Drummond.
Granted, the Minnesota Timberwolves big man was much better than Porzingis last season and won ROY voting in a landslide.
Porzingis is clearly the second best player on his team. It’s unclear right now if he’ll be rated like it.
