Chiefs RB Le’Veon Bell speaks on playing against Jets in regular season

The Jets released Le’Veon Bell in October. Now, as a member of the Chiefs, he’ll be playing in his first Super Bowl.

Le’Veon Bell is in the Super Bowl. This all comes nearly four months after the Jets waived him upon his “liking” of tweets questioning Adam Gase’s usage of him in a Week 5 loss. It was clear Bell and Gase didn’t experience a perfect relationship, and the Jets were actually attempting to trade the veteran running back prior to his ultimate release.

The past is the past, that’s for sure, but ahead of his first-ever Super Bowl appearance, Bell took the opportunity Tuesday to speak on his time playing against New York while with Kansas City.

“We played the Jets during the season, obviously I wanted to have a big game, it was supposed to be like a revenge game in a sense. It didn’t end up turning out that way, but I think that kind of opened my eyes to see the situation I was in,” he said. “They played hard, it’s not like they weren’t trying, the Jets played hard, I feel like they got a lot of good players over there, I just feel like they weren’t playing together. And I sensed that playing against them.”

Bell then acknowledged how things could improve over in Florham Park amid the hire of new head coach Robert Saleh. The former 49ers defensive coordinator is forming a new staff, which is hopefully going to be a big step towards a much more satisfactory 2021 campaign in comparison to Gang Green’s two-win 2020 season.

You could go back and forth on why the Jets-Bell marriage didn’t work out, but it all comes back to one aspect: the losing. After a 7-9 2019 season, the Jets were 0-5 to begin this past campaign prior to Bell’s parting of ways with the team.

At the end of the day, there’s a significant reason as to why Bell chose Kansas City — so he could potentially win a title. This coming Sunday against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, he’ll possess the opportunity to fulfill that major goal.
