New York Knicks center Enes Kanter’s cheat day ended in infamy. The man gorged himself on cheeseburgers and paid for it.

Losing can do crazy things to the mind and body, just ask Enes Kanter. Upon his return from a 14-day road trip, Kanter decided to reward himself with seven burgers and a tray of fries.

On the surface, there’s nothing wrong here right? Big man has to eat! Well…not quite. In addition to other writers, Noah Bressner of the New York Post reported that Kanter missed Thursday’s practice, the day after his infamous cheat day meal.

According to the New York Knicks, Kanter was out with an (illness) and flu-like symptoms, but that didn’t stop his teammates from having some fun at his expense. Via Mario Hezonja’s Instagram account, it seemed that the Knicks squad found their big man’s situation quite amusing.

For the record, when asked about his absence from practice and Friday’s game, head coach David Fizdale did not buy “burgergate” as the reason. Fiz told reporters at practice,

“I heard about this one. I didn’t see it,” Fizdale said. “Eat seven burgers? No way. His body would have rejected that. No, I can’t see that. Enes, the guy walks around with his shirt off all day in the locker room. There’s no way he’s stuffing seven burgers down his face. I just don’t see it. I think people sometimes take the Gram [Instagram] too seriously.”

Kanter has had a busy season. From disputes over playing-time to his ongoing feud with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Kanter has had no shortage of the spotlight. Furthermore, recent reports from Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN stated that the Knicks might be looking to trade Kanter for the Kings Zach Randolph.

No one knows what twist and turns are left in this season. Odds are that the Knicks, with just 10 wins the season, will keep piling on the loses. One thing, however, is for sure, this won’t be the last time we see Kanter in the news.
