The New York Yankees are the most historic franchise in baseball no questions about it. Fans take deep pride in the history of success and “The Yankee Way.” However, it’s almost 2020 and it’s time for the Yankees to start being more fun than classic…
Let’s get this out of the way: this take will likely get some heat. Some of the “experienced” New York Yankees’ fans will disagree with the idea that “The Yankee Way” is outdated.
It’s almost 2020 and the game isn’t as uptight as it used to be. The younger generations of fans love bat flips, personality and the slew of alternate uniforms teams release. The Yankees need to get in on the excitement.
Players should be themselves on the field and they should look sick while they do it. Nike is taking over Major League Baseball’s uniforms and they’re killing it. Just look at these alternates and say they don’t get you going…

The new looks are exciting. Maybe it’s the love of college baseball uniforms, but cool uniforms get fans 200% more invested in a team.
Even the Yankees 2019 Player’s Weekend look showed off some swagger. Some fans thought they were disgusting at first, but once they saw the black on black in action? Cool factor unmatched.

Now, this isn’t to say that alternate jerseys should ever be worn at home. The Yankee pinstripes are iconic. It’s pretty much impossible to get a better look than ole’ reliable…

But are fans really so attached to the road grays that they wouldn’t want the Yankees to switch it up a little?
Maybe the Yankees break out the black uniforms to energize a west coast trip. Perhaps, Nike designs them a new uniform so incredible that the grays become the alternate altogether.
The bottom line is that the game of baseball is changing. Hitters don’t catch 95 mph in the back for throwing their bat emphatically anymore. Players are injecting energy into a game that many fans say “takes too long” and “lacks constant action”.
The Yankees must hop on the fun bandwagon or they risk becoming the boring dinosaurs of the league.
