Oakland Raiders quarterback Derek Carr calls New York Jets safety Jamal Adams “one of the best players in the league.”
Derek Carr has had a productive season thus far for the Oakland Raiders. The veteran quarterback has completed 72.3% of his throws for 2,494 yards, 15 touchdowns, and only five picks. His efforts have propelled the Raiders from being one of the worst teams in the league last year to possessing a 6-4 record through 11 weeks.
However, this weekend, he’ll face arguably the best strong safety he’ll compete against all year. Jamal Adams and the New York Jets will host Carr and the Raiders on Sunday at 1 p.m. ET. Adams leads the team in combined tackles, sacks, and tackles-for-loss. Needless to say, Carr has a tough task on his hands and addressed it with reporters this week.
“Jamal Adams is one of the best players in the league. The guy is unreal,” Carr said on Wednesday, per Josh Schrock of NBC Sports. “When you turn the tape on, you can feel his presence without being there. I remember we played him [in 2017] here, and I remember telling him, ‘Keep that intensity.’ Because if you can play like that all the time — because I was impressed by him — I said, ‘If you can play like that all the time, you’re going to be one of the best to be in this league.’ Now, I have nothing to do with him being one of the best in the league, but I do remember having that conversation.”
The Jets have won their last two matchups and could be eyeing a potential playoff spot down the road if they were to win-out. The Raiders, on the other hand, will most likely be battling for a Wild Card spot in the AFC. At the moment, Oakland is the No. 6 seed by just half a game.
