New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick professes his love for New York Jets superfan and WFAN staple Joe Benigno.
“Oh, the pain. Bro, please. Only I can be so stupid to root for this team for 50-plus years.”
WFAN’s Joe Benigno understands the process: allow yourself to get all juiced up, then watch the game, only to have your heart ripped out of your soul. It’s what happened, yet again, to the longtime New York Jets fan who partners with Evan Roberts as one-half of the Joe & Evan program from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. ET every weekday.
“The pain” commenced when the Jets were thoroughly defeated by the New England Patriots on Monday Night Football, 33-0. Worse yet, Benigno told the world he felt good about the contest heading in and even bet the money line.
Now, days after the crushing loss, WEEI in Boston played a little Benigno audio prior to Bill Belichick’s weekly spot. The Pats’ sideline boss heard the segment prior to hopping on and, naturally, professed his love for Benigno.
“I love Joe,” Belichick said.
It’s commonly known that Benigno and Belichick had become friendly in the 1990s when the latter served on Bill Parcells’s Jets coaching staff.
Although Bill admitted he’s been on the opposite end of a few Benigno rants in the past, never does it happen these days. His dominance over Benigno’s Jets has been profound.
Bill Belichick and the New England Patriots are 7-0 while Joe Benigno’s 1-5 New York Jets ready themselves for a date down south against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Luckily for all those who “feel the pain,” the Jets won’t experience Belichick again during this regular season.
