New York Jets great D’Brickashaw Ferguson believes his team can be “very good” and Sam Darnold can operate at an “elite level.”

Tom Brady, Aaron Rodgers, Drew Brees, Ben Roethlisberger and Sam Darnold?

It sure has a nice ring to it.

“He’s got poise … he’s a talent,” D’Brickashaw Ferguson told Elite Sports NY exclusively at the DraftKings Kickoff in Hoboken, NJ.

“He’ll continue to get more comfortable and confident and he’ll be able to operate at an elite level.”

New York Jets fans certainly hope so too.

Gang Green drafted Darnold with the No. 3 overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft. New York football fans will remember the Giants passing on Darnold to select Penn State running back Saquon Barkley. It’s worked out brilliantly. Both squads have their guy.

With the addition of Le’Veon Bell and Ryan Kalil on the offensive line, as well as another year of experience for Darnold and an offensive-minded quarterback-whisperer head coach in Adam Gase, his development should take another leap in 2019.

Ferguson, a three-time Pro Bowler and native of Freeport, NY on Long Island, spent his entire 10-year NFL career with the Jets.

He made 160 consecutive starts and never missed a game.

Clearly, he’s no stranger to the Jets-Patriots rivalry. The newest addition for New England, polarizing wideout Antonio Brown.

“I really want to see how they resolve this issue. They have a history of making everything work. Maybe I want it to be contentious over there?” Ferguson said with a laugh.

“He’s a phenomenal athlete. We know the capabilities of New England. It’s no secret they’ve been a powerhouse for a very long time in this league. if they can figure out how to use this particular athlete, it’s only going to be problems for everyone they face.”
