Drew Brees is impressed with how New York Jets quarterback Sam Darnold is handling the high expectations many have of him.

Give it a few years and New York Jets quarterback Sam Darnold could be one of the top quarterbacks in the NFL. With his poise in the pocket and versatile talent, Darnold has a chance to win a ton of games in his career.

However, living up to expectations is hard for anyone. It’s especially hard when you could arguably be the biggest name at the quarterback position in your franchise’s history since Joe Namath.

However, Darnold is handling it with grace and maturity, and legendary quarterback Drew Brees has noticed.

The Jets and Saints just faced off on Saturday night at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in New Orleans. The Saints won by a score of 28-13 in the so-called “dress rehearsal” third preseason game for either team.

Brees completed four of his six passes for 68 yards and a touchdown. Darnold spent a little bit more time on the field, completing eight of his 13 passes for 97 yards and a touchdown. He additionally finished with a 110.1 quarterback rating.

The Jets take on the Philadelphia Eagles in their final preseason game this Thursday night at MetLife Stadium at 7 p.m. ET. It’s unclear if head coach Adam Gase will play Darnold at all.

My guess is that he may sit. There’s no point in playing Darnold at all in this last preseason game. This game should, for the most part, be strictly for the rookies and backups who need that last chance to make the final, 53-man roster.
