Legendary New York Jets quarterback Joe Namath is a fan of what he sees in second-year quarterback Sam Darnold.
There are high expectations for New York Jets quarterback Sam Darnold going into year No. 2. One year removed from his rookie season, which saw him throw 17 touchdowns and 15 interceptions, Darnold has a good number of weapons around him to help him succeed. He ultimately needs to utilize those weapons in order to lead the Jets to a postseason berth.
Do the people around Darnold have confidence in him, though? Yes, and legendary Jets quarterback Joe Namath is no exception to that.
“I liked what I saw of him physically when he was at Southern Cal before he got here,” Namath said, per Corey Hersch of SNY. “When he got here, I liked what the coaches and players had to say about him.
“Physically, he can play as well as anybody.”
Being a good quarterback in this league comes with having a good attitude. The majority of great NFL quarterbacks are very humbled and mature, which helps to not cause any distractions for their respective teams.
Namath believes Darnold is that type of guy, despite only being in the NFL for a short period of time up to this point.
“The few times that I’ve been in his presence and talking with him, he gives you a good vibe, a good feeling,” Namath said. “He’s respectfully humble.”
Darnold has a new running back in Le’Veon Bell and a new head coach in Adam Gase this year. Not to mention, he has a promising receiving corps which includes Robby Anderson, Quincy Enunwa and Jamison Crowder.
If everything comes together for Gang Green, look for them to be contenders in the AFC this season.
