New York Yankees manager, 2003 ALCS walk-off … no. “My guys are savages” is what Aaron Boone will be remembered for.

Aaron Boone’s guys are, indeed, savages. His New York Yankees again took a doubleheader in 2019, this time from the Tampa Bay Rays whose second-place presence in the AL East seems so insignificant at the moment.

In the second inning of Game 1, Boone put forth an epic rant that would have Earl Weaver blush with pride. He was obviously ejected, but it became a backstory to the glorious baseball day.

***NSFW language

Boone yelled to Brennan Miller, the home-plate umpire, “My guys are fucking savages in that fucking box right? And you’re having a real piece-of-shit start to this game. I feel bad for you, but fucking get better. That guy is a good pitcher, but our guys are fucking savages in that box. Our guys are savages in that fucking box. Tighten it up right now, okay? Tighten this shit up.”

With seemingly nobody in Yankee Stadium, the language was easy to identify. As far Miller’s performance behind the plate, even Gary Sanchez questioned balls and strikes.

The Yankees took Game 1 by a final of 6-2. Domingo German took the ball from savage labeler Boone and tossed six innings of two-run ball, earning his 12th win of the season.

Aaron Hicks and Gio Urshela each smacked his ninth home run of the season. Urshela collected three hits, leading all batters.

In Game 2, New York polished off Tampa 5-1. Luke Voit smashed his 18th moonshot of the campaign in the fifth inning, pulling his team to an even 1-1 score.

Using the opener, Chad Green pitched a scoreless first inning and Luis Cessa earned the win with 3.1 innings of scoreless ball.

Aaron Boone’s savages are now eight games clear of the second-place Rays in the AL East. If young Brennan Miller didn’t know them too well prior to Thursday, he sure does now.
