New York Jets wide receivers coach Shawn Jefferson wants people to excuse his French when he praises quarterback Sam Darnold.

Going into season No. 2 in the NFL, New York Jets quarterback Sam Darnold is poised to have a big year. With a new head coach in Adam Gase, a new running back in Le’Veon Bell, and a receiving core with potential, Darnold should take a big leap forward.

There’s a certain Jets coach that’s praising him in a way that isn’t suitable for children as well. It’s wide receivers coach Shawn Jefferson.

When Jefferson spoke about their quarterback this week, he wanted everyone to excuse his language.

“Excuse my French when I say this,” Jefferson said, per Ethan Sears of the New York Post “But he’s a f–kin’ dude. He’s a f–kin’ dude with a f–kin’ arm and he’s accurate as s–t.

“So, excuse that.”

Jefferson then went on to talk about the young quarterback’s work ethic. Darnold is apparently in the building very early on and stays late.

“I haven’t been around a guy like that, man,” Jefferson said. “It’s awesome to be around a guy like that.”

Jefferson also took time to discuss the receiving core, which includes guys such as Robby Anderson and Quincy Enunwa.

“Right now, the receiver group is going under construction, you know what I’m saying?” Jefferson said. “We’re under construction and we’re just trying to lay layers of building blocks, so we’ll get to training camp and we can put it all together.”

After going 9-23 the last two seasons, the Jets will be looking to be contenders in the AFC in 2019. Their offense has potential with Darnold and Gase at the forefront. The defense is primed to be effective too, with Jamal Adams at safety. If all goes according to plan, the Jets could be a potential playoff team in the AFC next year.
