A potential Anthony Davis trade could hinge on his willingness to sign a long-term deal with the New York Knicks.

With the NBA Draft Lottery upon us, the energy in New York is palpable. The possibility of landing the first overall pick—Zion Williamson—has New York Knicks fans in a tizzy.

However, should the Knicks acquire the coveted first overall pick, there are reports that they could be interested in trading for Anthony Davis using a package centered around Williamson. Whether or not Davis plans to re-sign with the Knicks could play a major factor in a potential deal.

“Anthony Davis would certainly consider re-signing with the Knicks if he felt he could be successful in New York, per SNY sources familiar with the matter,” wrote Ian Begley of SNY.

Davis is one of the best players in the league, but there are still tons of variables that could affect a potential trade. The New Orleans Pelicans are starting to keep an eye on Kevin Knox, but it’s still unclear what it would take to acquire Davis.

The Knicks have a horde of future draft picks and a bunch of exciting young players. That being said, the Knicks might choose to keep their young core and take a chance in free agency.

Davis would certainly cause superstar free agents to take notice of the Knicks. Stars generally want to play with other stars and trading for Davis might be the perfect bait to lure a player like Kevin Durant to Madison Square Garden.

With all this said, Begley notes that there is still no consensus among the front office about trading the No. 1 overall pick in the draft.

If there’s one thing we know for sure, it’s that this offseason is going to be an absolute rollercoaster for Knicks fans.
