The New York Giants are reportedly considering a trade for Cardinals quarterback Josh Rosen, however, are unsure of his availability.

The possibility that the New York Giants won’t look to the draft to get their future quarterback is starting to look real.

Rumors around Arizona Cardinals quarterback Josh Rosen have swirled for much of the offseason. The Cardinals have the No. 1 overall pick in the draft and reportedly have eyes for Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback Kyler Murray.

Now, that “rumor” is getting a little more serious.

According to a report from Ralph Vacchiano of SNY, the Giants are now discussing a trade for Rosen. However, they’re not sure of Rosen’s availability via the trade market.

“Multiple Giants sources told SNY this week that all they’ve heard so far are ‘rumors’ that the Cardinals plan to take Oklahoma quarterback Kyler Murray No. 1 overall and put Rosen on the block,” Vacchiano writes. “They have certainly discussed the possibility internally, one source said, though those talks were extremely preliminary. They don’t even seem sure at the moment whether they’d prefer Rosen — the 10th overall pick a year ago — to the quarterbacks in this year’s draft.

“Mostly, they are in a wait-and-see mode to see if the Cardinals do decide to trade Rosen and what their asking price might be.”

Rosen contains a high ceiling to develop despite only throwing 11 touchdowns to 14 interceptions last year as a rookie. If the Giants were to sit him behind Eli Manning for a year, he could very well be prepared to take over the job after the Manning era is complete.

Regardless of the Cardinals interest in Murray, head coach Kliff Kingsbury praised Rosen this past weekend at the NFL coaches breakfast.

“People have said a lot of things that are misconceptions, if you will,” Kingsbury said. “Josh is a tremendous player, I’ve always thought, watching him at UCLA. He played his best football in a spread system, some similarities to what we do. He’s a tremendous thinker, very cerebral, can throw it with anybody.”

If things don’t work out with Rosen, the Giants still have the opportunity to find a quarterback in the draft. With the No. 6 and 17 overall picks, Big Blue could look towards selecting Ohio State’s Dwayne Haskins, Duke’s Daniel Jones, Missouri’s Drew Lock, or even Murray if he’s available.
