The Philadelphia Phillies had the most important meeting in quite some time only to make the worst first impression on Manny Machado by far.
On Thursday, the Philadelphia Phillies had one goal.
Convince Manny Machado to choose them over the New York Yankees, the absolute epitome of class and success. That’s a pretty high bar to leap over even with “stupid money.”

It didn’t start off very well.
The Phillies allowed some blue-collar commoner to be the first to approach Manny Machado, give him an impromptu elevator sales pitch, and snap a picture. Even worse, they didn’t have anyone ready to open the door for the most important person in the city of Philadelphia.

An even worse look, however, is Machado in a Phillies uniform.

This looks absolutely terrible. How can you follow up a graphic of Machado in proper pinstripes?

Simply impossible.
One of these looks is clearly better than the other and in case my implications are too vague, Manny looks way better as a Yankee than he does as part of the Phillies.
In fact, if I were the Phillies, I would have scrapped that entire part of the presentation after seeing how much better the Yankees graphic was. I even might have the designer sent down to Triple-A so they could work on the fundamentals.
It’s my belief that if the Yankees make a competitive offer to Machado, he’ll sign the dotted line. All the inside reports point towards his desire to be in pinstripes.
Oh and also, this guy might be the dumbest person to ever speak on baseball …
The Phillies are about to make the most expensive blunder in their history. If they offer Manny Machado $300 million today, they will regret it for the next decade. Fans here don’t want a guy who said he won’t hustle. Don’t the Phillies understand this?
