Manny Machado might be on the New York Yankees wish list and manager Aaron Boone sure sounds like he wants him.

The New York Yankees have already missed out on two of the big names in free agency in Patrick Corbin and Nathan Eovaldi and, it sounds like Aaron Boone is making sure they won’t make that mistake again.

During an interview on the Michael Kay Show, Boone talked about what he thought it meant for a player to give his all on the field. Transcribed by Mark Fischer of the New York Daily News, Boone had some interesting things to say on the topic.

“But [it’s] not necessarily the No. 1 thing I look at when I am defining whether a player is giving his all or is a gamer.”

So what exactly is Boone looking for when looking at players hustle on the field? Well for the Yankees’ skipper, he looks at everything as a whole compared to whether or not a player runs out of the box hard or not.

Boy, Manny Machado’s ears must have rung when he heard that.

“My definition of a player who plays hard, who plays through adversity and is tough and brings things behind the scenes and has the ability to post when it is not easy,” Boone said on the Michael Kay Show. “Those are things that define playing hard a little more to me.’’

To some, the Yankees should be staying as far away from Manny Machado as they possibly could. For others, he seems like a no-brainer with Didi Gregorius out of the lineup for the half the season. Either way, these are the kind of comments Machado is looking to hear along with a team willing to offer him the big bucks.

But one thing is for sure, comments like this might explain why the Yankees had some of the issues they had in 2018.
