The New York Jets have finally cut down to the final 53 that make up the official 2018 Week 1 roster they’ll take into Detroit when taking on the Lions.

They cut 18 on Friday. They then cut 18 more on Saturday. Due to the fact Teddy Bridgewater was traded away prior to the preseason finale in Philadelphia on Thursday night, the New York Jets started at 89 players, not 90.

Twenty-six offensive players kept while only 24 on the defensive side remain. Incredibly, only six linebackers remain on the final roster. This number will not last for more than a week as Kevin Pierre-Louis will be coming off his one-week suspension to fill in as the third or fourth inside backer. A fourth EDGE man will also eventually be needed.

For now, however, 12 defensive backs are employed under Todd Bowles, the Super Bowl champion safety.

Like Pierre-Louis, Rashard Robinson will also become a regular member of the roster after serving his suspension. And since there’s no way they can carry eight corners, Justin Burris and Derrick Jones will likely be battling each other for the next four weeks.

Jets 53-man projection. Shocker? Chad Hansen over Charles Johnson (depending on how you look at it). Andre Roberts is desperately needed as a return man. Cannon shouldn't have any issues making it unless a back on Maccagnan's short-list shows face. Dozer vs. Shepley should be interesting (if they only keep eight on the OL). Rashard Robinson's suspension really helps out young Derrick Jones. No, this will not be the 10-man practice squad. In fact, probably two or three of them will only be on the squad. It's simply impossible to know who'll be cut from other teams and, again, who's on Mikey Mac's short-list around the league. #Jets #NYJ #JetsCamp #NFL #Darnold #SamDarnold #NYJets #NewYorkJets FULL STORY ON ESNY: https://elitesportsny.com/2018/08/26/new-york-jets-53-man-week-1-roster-projection-sam-darnold/

We had 45 of the 52 on the mark (as we’ll give ourselves a break on the Bridgewater slot). The most surprising non-employee at the moment is Frankie Luvu. Considering how weak the edge is, it made all the sense in the world to give a flier to the hard-working youngster.

Overall, nothing is shocking. These final 53-man rosters are nothing more than a one-week deal. Things drastically change come Week 2.

It’s now officially time for the Detroit Lions.
