After practice on Wednesday, New York Jets head coach Todd Bowles suggested that it will be Josh McCown who receives the start against Atlanta.

FLORHAM PARK, NEW JERSEY—New York Jets head coach Todd Bowles took to the podium to provide fruitless answers to many questions after yet another hot August football day on Wednesday afternoon.

The man who reveals almost as little as Eric Mangini once did a decade ago, was at it again, dodging one question after another while spouting off as many words as possible.

That was, until, the last question of the day as he couldn’t hold back any longer.

“There’s a chance, yes,” Bowles said in response to the question of if his quarterback rotation for Friday’s Week 1 preseason game against the Atlanta Falcons will mirror the team’s first unofficial depth chart released earlier in the week.

That’s as good as a plain admission of guilt from a man like Bowles.

This means Josh McCown will receive the start with Teddy Bridgewater acting as the first sub. When he’s inserted into the game remains anybody’s greatest guess, but think early second quarter or last first. It makes sense to have McCown play, at the most, one quarter.

The rotation will probably mirror the way the quarterback reps have been dished out: few for McCown while the other two take the bulk of the workload.

Though many onlookers felt as though young Darnold experienced an up-and-down day Wednesday, his sideline boss disagreed.

“I don’t think he’s struggled,” Bowles said. “Everybody is trying to get better.  It’s not Sam struggling. It’s part of being in camp. I’m very happy where he is.”

The New York Jets will host the Atlanta Falcons on Friday night at MetLife Stadium to kick off the preseason. Kickoff comes your way at 7:30 p.m. ET.
