With his opt-out decision still looming, Enes Kanter received some excellent advice from New York Knicks head coach David Fizdale.

With the deadline for players and teams to decide on their options looming large for Enes Kanter and the New York Knicks head coach David Fizdale is wisely involving himself with the Turkish center’s decision.

Kanter received some excellent advice from the new coach. According to Marc Berman of The New York Post, the two met during the draft combine where Fizdale told Kanter “to start getting in the gym and start shooting 3-pointers.”

This advice sounds a lot like the advice Fizdale probably gave to Marc Gasol in Memphis. In the eight seasons before Fiz got there, Gasol had only made 12 threes. In Fizdale’s first and only full season with the Grizzlies, Gasol buried 104 shots from downtown.

Despite rumors of a divide between the two causing Fizdale’s firing, the 2016-17 season produced career-highs in points and assists per game for Gasol. Letting him go was a questionable move from the Grizzlies.

Fizdale knows what he’s doing when it comes to player development. He spent eight years with the Miami Heat and nobody developments talent better than the Heat. Kanter should listen to whatever this guy says.

This explains the 26-year-old getting in on the NBA trend of posting Instagram videos of yourself training in an empty gym. It’s one thing to make those threes in an empty gym when no one’s playing defense it’s another to do it in a game.
