He may not be on the New York Yankees right now but Russell Wilson is using his star power to encourage a possible MLB team to Portland.

Football is the top priority for Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson, right?

Wrong. Clearly Major League Baseball owns some real estate in his head.

We all know that he was traded to the New York Yankees and spent some time impressing at spring training before heading back out to Seattle. It seems that his love of baseball will still play a big role in his work with the community.

Bleacher Report’s Mike Chiari reported that Wilson and his wife, Ciara, have joined a program that seeks to have a MLB team arrive in Portland, Oregon.

The Diamond Project, as it was so aptly named, was displayed on the website TraceMe that allows fans to get in the head of their favorite celebrities and athletes.

On Wilson’s TraceMe site, he announced that him and his wife were part owners of the Diamond Project. He also went on to discuss the entire project and it seems like a great thing to get involved in, especially in this location.

“Portland is a place sports fanatics get excited about, headquarters to Nike – a brand repped by all kinds of athletes – and a city where a new stadium is about to stand tall,” Wilson said on TraceMe.

So what is the fascination behind this project for Wilson? After all, he is a full-time football player and a part-time baseball player. For him, the project means so much more than just another baseball team hungry for money.

“When I think about bringing new energy, spirit, and care to a city it reminds me of being a father,” Wilson mused on TraceMe. “Passing your passion and your insight on to your kids is important. Teaching Future how to play little league baseball has been one of the best experiences of my life.”

It seems like this isn’t only a great project for his image but it is a personal project for him as well. We look forward to seeing how this project plays out for Russell Wilson.
