New York Yankees Bomber Buzz, 12/8/17: Hal's got a soft spot

We kick off this morning’s Bomber Buzz with a look in at the New York Yankees owner Hal Steinbrenner and his recent stint on The Michael Kay Show.

We all know that the Steinbrenner family is rough and tough. We’ve seem it for years with the New York Yankees.

But did we know that Hal Steinbrenner, current owner of the Yankees, actually has a pretty soft spot for one former player.

That’s right. Steinbrenner appeared on The Michael Kay Show and expressed his choice for a potential manager in former superstar/media hound Alex Rodriguez.

So all A-Rod had to do was say one little word and he could’ve been getting all the attention that Aaron Boone is now receiving. He could be developing young players and living in the spotlight, just like he used to be.

Well, the Yankees have a rookie manager anyway but he doesn’t have the flash that A-Rod does. Oh well, maybe he’ll learn his lesson for next time!

And now for more of the “Breaking News” department. We all assumed Joe Girardi was way too hard on Gary Sanchez, based off of video of him in the dugout with the starting catcher.

Well, apparently that was #FakeNews as John Harper of the New York Daily News reported that Girardi actually wasn’t hard enough on Sanchez in the privacy of the clubhouse.

See, I honestly never saw that one coming. I just assumed Girardi, as a fellow catcher, would be an expert at coaching catchers. He must have just wanted to be “one of the guys” and not be too hard on him.

Ah, NOW I can see it.

It’ll be interesting to see how Boone approaches the Sanchez issue, especially since he’s already reached out to mend some broken bridges. Guess we’ll get a real taste of that at spring training come February.
