The New York Jets essentially ended any hopes of the tournament with a disheartening 15-10 loss to Ryan Fitzpatrick and Tampa Bay.
The worst thing that could possibly happen to the New York Jets transpired at MetLife Stadium when the Buffalo Bills came to town. The Jets obliterated Buffalo to the tune of 194 yards on the ground and after a good hard look at the film was had, it was understood that Buffalo’s poor front-seven play not the Jets beastly O-line was the main cause.
This provided Todd Bowles even more of a false hope that his O-line could get the job done.
This Jets O-line has been hit or miss all season long in both the rushing and passing game. Two big rushing days have really skewed the number (Jacksonville and Buffalo).
And what’s worse is Bowles, a defensive-minded head coach, fancies himself as a guy who wants a defensive team coupled with a punishing, physical rushing attack.
This team just doesn’t have that in them and for three and a half quarters against the Bucs in Tampa, John Morton and Bowles continued to rush the ball and relent other opportunities through the air in the disheartening 15-10 loss that all but ended any fledgling playoff hopes.
All told, New York ran the ball 19 times for 56 yards. This provided Josh McCown with just 39 attempts through the air, most of which came late in the game. There were far too many early-down runs that set up tougher third down situations.
To add insult on to insult, the Bucs entered the game as the 32nd-ranked pass rush with single-digit sacks on the season. They sacked McCown six times in total on Sunday.
