Former NFL wide receiver Jerry Rice has spent his retirement crashing weddings in the Bay Area.

It’s been 11 years since NFL Hall of Fame receiver Jerry Rice retired from the NFL. So what has he been doing since he retired? Living the lush life? Nah, he’s been crashing weddings.

According to Kevin Clark of The Ringer, Rice has been crashing weddings consistently in the Bay Area at golf clubs or resorts or on business trips every weekend since he retired from football in 2006.

It is unknown exactly how many weddings Rice has crashed during this time. However, unlike Owen Wilson and Vince Vaughn in the movie Wedding Crashers, the former receiver doesn’t go to the weddings to get lucky but instead to congratulate the happy couple.

“I just want to go up to the bride and the groom and congratulate them,” Rice told Clark. “Tell them, ‘Today is your day.’ For some reason, it always turns out that they are so excited,” Rice said. “They want to take pictures, and I’m just happy to take pictures with them. It always turns out to be bigger than that.”

Jennifer Restani, whose recent wedding was crashed by the receiver told Clark, “The best was when my mother-in-law was kissing Jerry Rice. My husband went over to his dad and said, ‘Dad, mom is kissing Jerry Rice,’ and his dad just nodded and said ‘It’s OK.’”

The former receiver ended his NFL career with 1,549 receptions for 22,895 yards and 197 touchdowns, all NFL records. So if you are getting married in the Bay Area anytime soon you can expect Rice to show up uninvited because apparently he can’t live without receptions.
