Tony Jones was lucky to walk off the field after a devastating hit to his head by Miami U cornerback Daryus Thompson.

Those Notre Dame football players are definitely fighters, as running back Tony Jones showed today, getting up from a brutal hit.

Notre Dame Fighting Irish Tony Jones took an explosive head to head hit by Miami (Ohio) cornerback Daryus Thompson. The hit, devasting in itself, appeared more explosive as pieces of the gold paint from the helmet worn by Tony Jones flew through the air.

Thompson, surprisingly, didn’t suffer any effects from the collision and continued playing, ultimately finishing the game.

The hit on Jones left him dazed as he got up from the crushing impact and he wound up on the sideline for the rest of the game, but luckily he wasn’t seriously injured after such a hard hit.

The hit was unintentional as Jones was already off balance prior to being hit by Thompson, but with all the talk surrounding the danger of head-to-head hits, I am positive the NCAA will take a look at the play again.

Despite the terrifying moment, Notre Dame went on to defeat Miami (OH), 52-17.
